Frequently asked questions.
1. What does a Medicinal Herbalist do?
A medicinal herbalist works with plants to support the body’s natural healing process. At Oxford Herbal, I create bespoke herbal formulations using whole-plant medicine to gently restore balance, vitality, and resilience—always guided by nature, tradition, and clinical insight.
2. What can herbal medicine help with?
Herbal medicine can support a wide range of health concerns, including:
Digestive issues
Hormonal imbalance
Stress, anxiety, and emotional wellbeing
Skin conditions (eczema, acne, psoriasis)
Fatigue and burnout
Immune system support
Respiratory problems
Joint pain and inflammation
3. What happens during a consultation?
In your initial consultation (usually 90 minutes), we’ll explore your full health picture—physical, emotional, lifestyle, and medical history. I use tools like iridology, tongue and pulse diagnosis, and terrain assessment to guide a personalised herbal strategy. A bespoke remedy is then created and posted to you.
4. What is iridology, and why do you use it?
Iridology is the study of the iris to reveal information about your constitution, emotional patterns, and inherited tendencies. It’s a powerful, non-invasive tool that helps me understand the root causes of imbalance and tailor your herbal support more effectively.
5. Is herbal medicine safe?
Yes, when prescribed by a trained Herbalist. I work with high-quality, organic or wildcrafted herbs, carefully matched to your constitution, current medication, and symptoms. Your safety and wellbeing are always my priority.
6. How long does it take to see results?
Some people feel improvements within a few weeks, while others need longer—especially for deep-rooted or chronic issues. Most clients work with me for 6 months to allow for deep healing and sustainable change. If they would like to continue after that (as many do), they can.
7. Can I take herbal medicine alongside my medication?
In many cases, yes. I always review your current medication and any medical diagnoses before prescribing. Certain herbs may be contraindicated, so I create safe, supportive remedies that respect your pharmaceutical regime.
8. Do you offer remote consultations?
Yes. I like to see you in person for the first consultation and after that, I offer both in-person and online consultations via Zoom, so you can access support from anywhere. If this is not possible, please let me know. Remedies are posted directly to your door using tracked delivery services.
9. Do you run workshops or courses?
Yes! Oxford Herbal offers seasonal foraging walks, medicine-making workshops, and online courses such as The Herbal Eye. These sessions reconnect you with nature and empower you to care for yourself and your family with herbs.
10. How can I book a consultation or join a workshop?
You can book directly through my website [insert booking link] or email me at [insert email]. For workshop updates, follow me on Instagram and sign up for the seasonal newsletter.
