Why Pushing Through Eventually Stops Working

For many people, pushing through works — for a time.

It can carry you through busy periods, stress, or illness.
It allows you to maintain function and keep moving forward.

But eventually, it begins to stop working.

What once felt manageable becomes more difficult.
Recovery takes longer.
Small things begin to have a greater impact.

This is not a failure of will.

It is a shift in the body’s capacity.

The systems that once buffered stress are no longer able to do so in the same way.

And the strategy of pushing through, which once supported you, begins to create more strain.

At this point, the approach has to change.

Not because you are weaker —
but because the body is asking for a different kind of support.

If this reflects your experience, I explore this turning point further in:

The Listening Room – Session 1: When the Body Stops Cooperating

Sarah Turton

I’m Sarah, a medicinal herbalist and founder of Oxford Herbal. I work with people who want to understand the deeper story behind their symptoms — not just to mask them, but to heal from the root.

Using traditional herbal medicine, iridology, and a deep respect for nature’s rhythms, I create personalised plans to support the whole person — body, mind and spirit. My practice is rooted in compassion, connection, and the belief that real wellness comes from working with the body, not against it.
